Ocean and Water Literacy (OWL) promotes understanding of how the Earth\u2019s aquatic systems affect us and how we affect them. OWL is promoted by the EU through its \u2018<em><a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe\/eu-missions-horizon-europe\/restore-our-ocean-and-waters_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mission to restore our ocean and waters by 2030<\/a><\/em>\u2019. The importance of Ocean Literacy is also underscored by <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanliteracy.unesco.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNESCO<\/a>. <br><br>Aquatic ecosystems are highly dynamic. Conventional teaching materials do not provide interactivity that promotes a strong appreciation of these dynamics. Through use of simulation models, we provide interactive tools to inform, educate and enlighten students and teachers on matters concerning life in aquatic ecosystems and how these inter-relate to abiotic factors.<br><br>We have 50 person years experience of developing OWL simulation models and delivering workshops to enhance learning and teaching to audiences from diverse age groups (7 yr old school pupils to adults) and of diverse needs (e.g., 11-16 yr old pupils with hearing impairment).
